Spring Break in Anguilla

Spring Break 2024 was another one for the memory books. My family has been fortunate enough to travel to the island of Anguilla a total of 3 times now and it still remains one of my favorite places on the planet. Why? Read on to find out!

Anguilla is one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. My dad found it years ago when he was looking for a new vacation spot and safety was always a top priority in their decision. Once my parents saw the beauty of the island and the amazing Frangipani Beach Resort, they never looked for another place and visited almost every year after. We were fortunate to join them first in 2017 and we all fell in love with the island and resort, too.

There are two options for getting to Anguilla. One is to fly to St. Maarten and take either a ferry or speed boat to Anguilla. This is what we did in 2017 and it was a fairly easy process. The downfall is having to go through customs on both islands and the extra travel time on the water. The speed boat was only about a 20 minute ride, but you have to take a shuttle from the airport to get to the dock.

The second is to take a direct flight to Anguilla from Miami. American Airlines is doing great things for these smaller islands with direct flight options. This is what we chose the past 2 times we visited because of the ease and convenience of landing directly on the island. The airport is teeny tiny (one gate) so it doesn't take long to get around and being able to hop in a car or taxi to get right to your resort is definitely preferable.

Anguilla is a British island, but they have their own currency US Dollars are widely accepted, though, so no need to convert any cash.

There are many different resorts and places to stay in Anguilla, as there are 33 beaches on the island. We continue to stay on Meads Bay at the Frangipani Beach Resort. First, the beach is beautiful and quiet. You would never guess it was spring break here.

Second, the Frangipani is a small resort and they go above and beyond for their guests. They greet you by name and remember you when you come back. They make staying with them so easy and enjoyable that it is hard for me to imagine staying anywhere else. We were fortunate to stay in their villa, but the resort rooms are just as lovely.

Third, the sunsets on Meads Bay are spectacular.

Anguilla also has a lot of great restaurants.. This is important because there are no all inclusive resorts here (though some resorts do offer a European style package that includes breakfast).

We decided to stay close to Meads Bay this trip and not venture out to other parts of the island for dinner, but that is something I do recommend if you don't mind driving a rental car on the left side of the road or hiring a taxi. The nice part is you absolutely do not have to have a car. We walked to dinner on the beach several nights, ordered in, and ate at our favorite restaurant, The Straw Hat, multiple times, including every day for breakfast.

Breakfast at the Straw Hat

While you can really just hang out at the beach or pool all day, it is also fun to explore the island a bit. We hired the resort boat and crew of the Frangicat II to take us to some different spots on the island for a few hours. It is always one of our favorite days! We get to swim, snorkel, and even do a little cliff diving (not me…I stayed safe with my floatie and had a small heart attack every time one of my family members jumped)!

I will never get over how beautiful the water is here.

Not our boat, but I will only jump in if I have a floatie. I am very happy.

Is it a bigger investment to visit Anguilla than some other islands? Yes. But is it absolutely worth it? Also yes! The sand is clean and soft and you can walk barefoot without any issues, even in the dark.

It is safe, and the water really is this color. It is something you probably have to see to believe.

I am always very sad to leave and immediately begin making plans for the next time we can visit. It is a special place to me and my family and I think you should get to experience it, too.
